School Governors

Welcome to the Downs Junior School Governor’s website page. I will be introducing you to our governors and communicating our duties, responsibilities, priorities and actions over the coming year.

Our role is to ensure that through a clear strategic vision we are able to hold the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, whilst ensuring that school finances are well managed and demonstrate value for money. We do this by reviewing school performance data and budgets, holding regular meetings and reviews and visiting the school to see the teachers and children in their own environment. We also review our own performance as a governing body.
We have had a number of changes within the governing body over the last year as the DfE (Department for Education) required governing bodies to reconstitute before September 2015, this required us to look at our skills and form a committee that can effectively drive school improvement. I was confident that these skills were already held within our team but by reconstituting we could regroup and focus on the current priorities for our school.
Current priorities
  • This half term we will be looking at the 2017 Year 6 results and evaluating performance, looking to improve year on year results and whole school achievement.
  • We will be reviewing our school policies ensuring that they are up to date and provide a solid framework which can be used to provide support and guidance to staff, outline expectations and monitor progress and achievement.

We always like to hear from parents, if you have a query, suggestion or comment please complete the contact box below.
Many thanks,
Karen Preston
