Our Inclusion Leader - Sam Kaiser
For any questions or queries regarding Special Educational Needs at Downs Junior, please contact Mrs Kaiser via email on samkaiser@downsjun.brighton-hove.sch.uk
A child has special educational needs if they have specific needs that require special educational provision to be made for them beyond normal class differentiation. Our concern is to identify the needs of pupils as early as possible and to work together with parents and pupils alike to support progress and inclusion in all aspects of the curriculum. Parents and class teachers can discuss progress or concerns at termly consultation evenings (or at other times by arrangement). A further appointment might be made with the Inclusion Leader if appropriate.
Supporting the Whole Child
At Downs, we believe if a child feels better, they do better.
That is why we have many tools in place to ensure children have the pastoral care they need.
We have a Learning Mentor, a Counsellor and an Adoption Support Teacher, all of whom work with a variety of children in the school. Many of our children also have a Key Adult, who is there to support them with their wellbeing needs.
We have high expectations for all of our children and our aim is to ensure they reach their potential. There are different interventions in place, such as parallel teaching groups and 1:1 support, for those children who need it.
