Personal, Social and Health Education

PSHE helps to prepare children for their life in the world by considering issues such as safety, responsibility and health. We use SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) materials as part of the core resources in the PSHE curriculum. The resources cover five broad social and emotional aspects of learning; self awareness, managing feelings, motivation, empathy and social skills. There are also clear links with other curricular areas, particularly Science (Sex and Relationships and Drugs Education), Religious Education for appreciating and understanding cultural diversity. We aim to teach the children to celebrate their differences and the diverse world in which we live. Activities such as Equal People Week, Send my Friend to School and Anti-Bullying themes allow us to raise awareness and celebrate equalities and diversity.

Parents will be invited to view the materials being used at the beginning of the relevant term in which the Sex and Relationships Education topic is covered. Parents have the right to withdraw their child from any aspect of sex education that is not a statutory requirement of the National Curriculum.
